Back in January of 1992, while Chris and I were working on ghetto girl’s third album, Tracy was staying with us for a while in the loft/ex-diner/recording studio we lived in at the time in West Oakland. Tracy had been a frequent collaborator with ghetto girl, appearing on numerous tracks from the earliest days, so it was only natural that he would contribute to our project while he was with us.
One of Tracy’s great gifts as an artist was his ability to improvise, and the tracks recorded here were delivered completely off-the-cuff, nothing written out or pre-planned. We shared a joint, then Tracy grabbed the microphone and off he went! Chris was effecting Tracy’s voice in real time, so Tracy adjusted his delivery to the weird things Chris was doing to it. Chris and I later edited the recordings and added some pre-existing ghetto girl tracks to expand the sonic pallet of these recordings. Part stand-up comic, part inter-cosmos channeller, part poet, and part priest, Tracy covers all the bases here!
This free download includes a full-color booklette featuring a few photos taken the day of this session, as well as a few from the time right around then.
It been more than 25 years since Tracy left us, but with this release, we can all celebrate the fact that he gave us all a gift that keeps on giving!
Terry Venemous is releasing new music every 3 weeks this year. His latest EP is sumptuous art pop with a wry sense of detachment.
